Relive the Moments of October 22

Meeting #1005, October 22, 2014

The theme of the meeting was HALLOWEEN and the word of the day was SAFETY. In her toast, Chairman and Toastmaster Naomi Hamersley shared some of the theories behind some of our beloved Halloween traditions including trick or treating, jack o lanterns and costumes. Table Topic Master Colin Nekolaichuk got participants to choose SCARY, FUNNY or SEXY and then had them describe their costume.

Our first speaker was Elizabeth Hibbert who gave her Icebreaker speech from the Competent Communicators Manual. In her speech, entitled “Influential Interference,” she talked about the people who made a huge difference in her life. Nadine Ricketts evaluated Elizabeth’s speech.

Noelle Hamersley gave her second speech from the Speciality Speeches Manual (Uplift the Spirit). In “One Life to Live” she talked about her fear of turning 40, and then described the heartbreaking story of a 29 year old woman who had terminal brain cancer and had six months to live. Meaghan Johns evaluated Noelle’s speech.

Jefferson Mesidor gave Speech#1 from The Professional Speaker Manual (Keynote Address) and urged the crowd to take chances and take risks to get what they wanted in their life. Geoff Smith evaluated Jefferson’s speech.

Vahid Anwari was the General Evaluator; Wanrudee Isaranuwatchai was the Timer; Shirley Li was the Quizmaster; Yasser Abdullah was the Grammarian.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 12.
