Relive the Moments of May

This Grosvenor Toastmasters meeting was all about the music as Chair and Toastmaster Noelle Hamersley chose FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC as the theme and MUSIC as the word of the day. Table Topic Master Amy Won had members talk about an instrument, a genre or a dance.

The first speaker was Luis Correa who gave Speech #3 from the Competent Communicators Manual (Get to the Point). In “Perception,” Luis talked about how perception shapes the way you respond to situations. Naomi Hamersley evaluated Luis’ speech.

The second speaker was Elizabeth Hibbert who gave the fourth speech from the Competent Communicators Manual (How to say it). Elizabeth used this as an opportunity to practice her upcoming maid of honour speech for her friends Kelly and Josh. Alia Zhang evaluated Elizabeth’s speech.

Amy Warren was our third speaker, who gave a speech from the Better Speaker Series on giving a training session. She provided tips on “How to Use Effective Body Language” including using facial expressions, gestures and stance. Meaghan Johns evaluated Amy’s speech.

The fourth speaker of the night was Wanrudee Isaranuwatchai, who gave her tenth and final speech from the Competent Communicators Manual (Inspire your audience), called “Who Did You Do This For”. She related her story of how she came to Canada and completed her PhD, and attributed it to her family. Jaze Bordeaux evaluated Wanrudee’s speech.

Danish Ahmed was the General Evaluator, Cici Xu was Quizmaster, Brian Ho was the Timer, and Arlene Holligan was the Vote counter. .

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 10.

It was NOELLE’S NIGHT at this Grosvenor Toastmasters meeting, as Chair and Toastmaster Jaze Bordeaux honoured long-time member Noelle Hamersley, and with ZEST as the word of the day, the night was lively. Table Topic Master Meaghan Johns gave members yearbook awards and asked them to talk about why Noelle deserved the award.

Danish Ahmed stepped in to give an impromptu speech titled “The Way It Is” in which he gave life lessons inspired by Carole King’s song “Beautiful”. Kendrick Doll evaluated Danish’s speech.

The second speaker was Amy Won who gave the fifth speech from the Competent Communicators Manual (Your body speaks). In “What I learned from being a maid of honour twice” she provide tips on how to prepare yourself to be a maid of honour. Alia Zhang evaluated Amy’s speech.

Shirley Li was our third speaker, who gave Speech #9 from the Competent Communicators Manual (Persuade with Power). In “How to manage the daily madness at work”, she provided great tips on how to focus and avoid distractions in a busy workplace. Noelle Hamersley evaluated Shirley’s speech.

The fourth speaker of the night was Naomi Hamersley, who stepped in for Geoff Smith to give Noelle a roast. In the “Message to Garcia” he praised Noelle’s willingness to step in and do what was needed to keep the club moving.

Elizabeth Hibbert was the General Evaluator, Sukhil Suresh was Quizmaster, Javier Fernandes was the Timer, and Amy Won was the Vote counter.
